Tabling
Tabling (e.g., at farmers’ markets or local colleges) works well to promote awareness, to distribute informational literature, and to solidify the enthusiasm of existing supporters. It is most effective when people stand in front of the table and proactively engage with passersby. Most prospective targets will ignore someone seated at a table, but they will usually be receptive to someone who approaches them in a friendly, light-hearted way in the spirit of enriching their day with an unanticipated positive human interaction.
When Tabling Is Effective:
Voter Registration: Staffing a table at community spaces or campus centers successfully signs up new voters and collects direct contact information.
Active Engagement: Field manuals note that standing in front of a table, using friendly greetings, and offering a clear, immediate call to action (like signing a specific petition) drastically improves interactions
Base Mobilization: Tabling works well to distribute informational literature, build local volunteer lists, and solidify the enthusiasm of existing supporters.
